I’m so proud that my reselling business helps conserve resources and keeps waste from landfills. Just like choosing secondhand items is always the most sustainable choice, reusing existing shipping materials is always the best way to ship sustainably but it also happens to be a great way to save money.
It’s true that I pay almost nothing for shipping supplies on a yearly basis and it is affordable! Most of my packaging is reused from friends and family or from local scavenging that I do myself! If that’s not available to me or I’ve run out- I will use free USPS shipping supplies and, of course, I’m constantly reusing packaging from things that I order in the mail myself. Some of these tips might only work if you’re a small biz like me but some can be scaled.
The only shipping materials I pay for are plain recycled polymailers that I order about once a year and shipping tape. It is important to me that I never use new plastics anywhere in my business because I don’t want to support more new material being brought into the marketplace. Next year my goal is to switch to compostable polymailers and water-based compostable shipping tape!
